About Our Project
The Lesbros Project is a platform dedicated to reclaiming our history of female masculinity across our various presentations and identity categories (butch, stud, FTM, transmasc etc) and building strong community among ourselves. The male-passing woman has been a long-standing part of lesbian history, woven into the fabric of our culture, but often misunderstood and marginalized, even within our own communities. We believe our masculinity is a natural part of the heterogeneity of women and, especially, lesbians, tied to expressions of our sexuality and in opposition to gender stereotyping. The masculine lesbian often struggles to find meaning within broader cultural frameworks for womanhood - given different names from generation to generation, culture to culture, yet, we persist, and continue to rewrite ourselves into societies not always forgiving or accepting of us.

Judith "Jack" Halberstam wrote, in her 1998 book Female Masculinty:

“There is something all too obvious about the concept of female masculinity…I hope this book opens discussion on masculinity for women in such as way that masculine girls and women do not have to wear their masculinity as a stigma but can infuse it with a sense of pride and indeed power.”

In this spirit, we wish to fully embrace our masculinity as something worthy of reverence, safety and dignity - a unique but fully acceptable expression of womanhood and lesbianism.

Our Mission:
Build a network of like-minded butches, transmen, transmasc and detrans women.
Assist transmen to make the paradigm shift to sex-realism and reintegrate into community with women.
Support one another to develop healthy self-image, relationships and community.
Develop consciousness-raising campaigns about issues of interest and concern.
